At a U2 concert in Halifax, Bono asks the audience for some quiet.
Then, in the silence, he starts to slowly clap his hands.
He says into the microphone, in a deep solemn voice...
"Just for a moment, think outside yourself...Outside this arena.
Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies."
A loud Newfy voice from near the front pierces the moment...
"Well, Lard tunderin jasus, ya stupid arse, stop fockin' clappin', yer hand den!"

Didn't like that? I think I find it amusing because it seems like the kind of smartass comment I have a habit of making.
Nah, I'm a huge fan of smart ass, but the joke just reads strange to me - the word Newfie/Newfy has offensive connotations, there's the stereotypical language, and then I really don't get what Halifax has to do with it at all!
I guess the stereotypes clouded the wit for me...
Alright, fair enough. I wasn't aware of negative connotations with "newfie"
